From the first conversation to the handover: every RETINA® piece begins with you and carries an unmistakable signature that tells your story.
The journey to your RETINA® one-of-a-kind piece takes five steps: consultation, RetinaScan, design with RetinaCode® and 3D visualization, handcrafting in Basel, handover. About two months in total, possible from anywhere in the world, by video consultation if you wish.
The five steps at a glance
Every step has a clear purpose. No step begins without your approval.
Step 1Consultation
Free initial conversation, online by video or in the atelier at Rheinsprung 10 in Basel. We listen: who will wear the piece, whom should it keep close, which shape suits.
Step 2RetinaScan
A special camera photographs your retinal pattern in about a minute. Contact-free, completely harmless, in Basel or with a partner worldwide.
Step 3Design and 3D visualization
From your RetinaSignature we select together the most expressive section, your RetinaCode®. You decide the direction of the pattern, raised or inverted, and platinum or gold in white, yellow or red. Perhaps a gemstone or two? You receive a photorealistic 3D visualization, on request in several variants, which you can compare at your leisure until final approval. That is how we make the decision as easy as possible for you.
Step 4Handcrafting in Basel
After your approval, the one-of-a-kind piece takes shape in the hands of our goldsmiths. No piece leaves the atelier before it meets our standard.
Step 5Handover and promise
Handover in the atelier or worldwide shipping, with certificate. From then on: a two-year warranty and lifelong free cleaning and refinishing.
The scan: one minute that lasts
The most unusual moment of the whole journey is also the shortest.
A special camera looks where no one else ever looks: at the fine, branching pattern of your retina. The scan takes about a minute, is contact-free and completely harmless, similar to an image taken at the eye doctor. Your images are stored encrypted and used solely for your piece of jewelry.
You do not have to travel to Basel for it. The scan is also possible with a partner from our worldwide network, and the entire design journey can take place by video if you wish.

How does ordering from RetinaDesign work?
In five steps: personal consultation (online or in Basel), RetinaScan in about a minute, design with selection of the RetinaCode®, quote and 3D visualization, handcrafting in the Basel atelier, handover or worldwide shipping. About two months in total.
How long does the whole process take?
About two months from the consultation to the finished piece. If it needs to be faster, ask us about the express service.
Is the initial consultation free?
Yes. The initial conversation is free, online by video or in the atelier at Rheinsprung 10 in Basel.
How does the RetinaScan work and is it safe?
A special camera photographs the retinal pattern in about a minute, contact-free and completely harmless, similar to an image taken at the eye doctor. The images are stored encrypted and used solely for your piece of jewelry.
Does the whole process work from abroad?
Yes. The scan is possible with a partner from the worldwide network, the consultation takes place by video, and the finished piece is shipped worldwide.
What does RETINA® jewelry cost?
Personalized jewelry starts at around CHF 1 800, rings in gold or platinum at around CHF 2 850, necklaces at around CHF 1 900. An average pair of rings comes to about CHF 10 000. All figures are starting prices and depend on the current precious metal price, the weight and the execution. You will find the weekly updated guide prices on the prices page.
What does the 3D visualization cost?
CHF 400 per piece. When you order, the amount is credited in full. So you see your piece in every detail before anything is made, at no extra cost when you buy.
Can I still change the design after the 3D visualization?
Yes. That is exactly what the visualization is for: you check every detail, and production begins only after your approval.
What are the payment terms?
When the order is placed, 50 percent is due by bank transfer, the remainder on collection. From abroad we ask for payment in advance; payment in installments is possible on request.
What applies after the handover?
A two-year warranty on workmanship, plus our lifelong promise: free cleaning and refinishing and free ring resizing for rings without stone settings.
What if I do not know my ring size?
We will send you a free ring sizing kit. And if the size changes later: resizing is possible, and the pattern remains completely intact.
