The Path to a One-of-a-Kind Piece

The Process

Six steps. Two months. A piece for a lifetime.

From the initial consultation to delivery, every RETINA® piece follows the same serene journey. Here it is, step by step.

The journey to your one-of-a-kind RETINA® piece involves six steps: consultation, RetinaScan, selection of the RetinaCode, design with 3D preview, handcrafted in Basel, and delivery. The entire process takes about two months and can be done from anywhere in the world.

RETINA® Brand Code: There Is Only One

An overview of the six steps

Each step has a clear purpose. No step begins without your approval.

Step 1

Consultation

Free initial consultation, online via video or at our studio at Rheinsprung 10 in Basel. We listen: Who will wear the piece, who is it meant to protect, and what shape is best?

Step 2

RetinaScan

A special camera captures your retinal pattern in about one minute. Non-contact, completely safe, in Basel or at a partner location worldwide.

Step 3

Select RetinaCode

Together, we’ll select the most expressive section from the entire retinal image. This RetinaCode will become the signature of your piece.

Step 4

Design and Quote

Shape, platinum or gold in white, yellow, and rose, size, gemstones. You’ll receive a binding quote and, upon request, a photorealistic 3D visualization.

Step 5

Handcrafted in Basel

Once you approve the design, our goldsmiths will craft your one-of-a-kind piece by hand. No piece leaves the studio until it meets our exacting standards.

Step 6

Delivery and Promise

Pickup at the studio or worldwide shipping. Afterward: a two-year warranty and free cleaning and refreshing for life.

RetinaScan at RetinaDesign in Basel: the special camera captures the retinal pattern in about one minute

The Scan: A Minute That Stays With You

The most unusual moment of the entire journey is also the shortest.

A special camera looks where no one else looks: at the delicate, branching pattern of your retina. The scan takes about one minute, is non-contact, and completely safe—similar to an examination at the eye doctor’s office. Your images are stored in encrypted form and used exclusively for your piece of jewelry .

You don’t have to travel to Basel for this. The scan is also available at a partner in our global network, and the entire design journey can be conducted via video if you prefer.

The first step is a consultation.

Free, no-obligation, online, or at our Basel studio. Everything else will follow from there.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Process

How does the ordering process work at RetinaDesign?

In six steps: personal consultation (online or in Basel), RetinaScan in about one minute, joint selection of the RetinaCode, design with a quote and optional 3D visualization, handcrafted production in our Basel studio, pickup or worldwide shipping. The entire process takes about two months.

How long does the entire process take?

About two months from the consultation to the finished piece. If you need it faster, please ask us about our express service.

Is the initial consultation free?

Yes. The initial consultation is free—available online via video or in person at our studio at Rheinsprung 10 in Basel.

How does the RetinaScan work, and is it safe?

A special camera captures the retinal pattern in about one minute—contact-free and completely safe, similar to an eye exam at the ophthalmologist’s office. The images are stored in encrypted form and used exclusively for your piece of jewelry.

Can the entire process be done from abroad?

Yes. The scan can be performed at a partner location within our global network, the consultation takes place via video, and the finished piece is shipped worldwide.

How much does the 3D visualization cost?

CHF 400 per piece of jewelry. When you place an order, 100 percent of this amount will be credited toward your purchase. This means you’ll see your piece in full detail before anything is manufactured, at no additional cost.

Can I still adjust the design after the 3D visualization?

Yes. That’s exactly what the visualization is for: you review every detail, and production begins only after your approval.

What are the payment terms?

A 50 percent deposit is due via bank transfer upon placing the order; the balance is due upon pickup. For international orders, we request payment in advance; installment payments are available upon request.

What applies after delivery?

A two-year warranty on workmanship, plus our lifetime promise: free cleaning and refurbishment, as well as free ring resizing for rings without gemstones.

What if I don’t know my ring size?

We’ll send you a ring sizer kit free of charge. And if your size changes later, adjustments are possible while fully preserving the design.
