When I started writing this text reviewing my experience with Stefan and RETINA®, I found it hard to start typing. It’s very difficult to find the right words to describe how this piece of platinum actually changed my life.
This is not a review, this is a heartfelt token of my gratitude to Stefan and his wife for making a ring that symbolises everything I’ve longed for after a very difficult period in my life. Just to give you a bit of an insight, I’m married to a wonderful man who became very sick a couple of years ago. I took care of him for as long as I could, but as his memory started to fade away more and more rapidly, I had no choice but to let him be cared for by professionals. These developments made me extremely sad and depressed. But as they say, never give up on love, I met someone else who took my pain and tried to mend what was broken. This new partner picked me up from the ground and showed me that there’s still a bright future to be enjoyed to the fullest.
You have to let the jewellery become a part of yourself.
When we wanted to symbolise the respect and love we have for each other, we didn’t know what to look for. Would it be a piece of art, a watch, a ring, or something else? All we knew was that it would have to be something unconventional and personal. That’s when we stumbled upon RETINA® and the unique pieces Stefan makes in his tiny workshop in Basel. We immediately knew these rings, with our retina as a base for the design, were exactly what we wanted. From the first consultation, Stefan understood what we wanted and why we wanted these rings as a symbol for happiness and love. He very gently asked us more about the deeper meaning his work could have for us, and guided us through the process, respecting the emotional gravity our purchase contained.
After we had our retinas photographed, Stefan helped us design our new rings. He managed to combine our own separate eye signatures into one unique piece of jewellery. We’re still very grateful we met Stefan, who we consider more a friend than a merchant. We kept in touch and went back for a first fitting. The moment we first slid our rings around our fingers was a moment of confirmation. Yes, we made the right choice to buy these rings, and yes, we were meant to be together, going through the whole process.
RETINA® is not a normal shop. You can’t buy anything instantly, you have to let the jewellery become a part of yourself. When we picked up the rings, it was one of the happiest moments of my life. I finally felt whole again. I will never forget the kindness, the craftsmanship and the professionalism I experienced when I got to know Stefan. I could go on and on about what a wonderful product this is and what wonderful people are behind it, but for now, I just want to thank you, thank you for doing what you do and being who you are.

A wonderfully smooth process. We had worked with another goldsmith for weeks, but it simply did not come together. Then we found RETINA®, and Stefan organized everything without a hitch.
