Our 2017 Epiphany: Beyond “Beautiful” to Deeply Personal
It was here, back in 2017, surrounded by heritage and tradition, that we – Stefan & Marlen Wacha – asked a radical question: How could a wedding ring become not only beautiful to the beholder but also truly personal and meaningful for the wearer?
Mass Production Can’t Capture Individuality
The answer wasn’t to be found in just another design – it was inside us. Searching for something that truly felt like ours, we realized that mass-produced jewelry, however luxurious, cannot hold your story. We realized the missing element was you, your uniqueness.

As a jewellery designer and former neuroscientist, Stefan fused two passions. The human retina—a root-like pattern hidden in every eye—differs for each person like a fingerprint, yet is far more intricate and beautiful. A natural masterpiece that exists only once on Earth.

📍 Visiting our atelier in Basel is a beautiful experience – but not a requirement. Your Retina scan can be arranged with one of our local partners, and every step of the journey can take place remotely, comfortably via video call.

How long does the process take ?
The process typically takes 6-8 weeks from consultation to delivery; however, we offer an express service at an additional cost, which allows us to complete projects in approximately 3 weeks.
How much does it cost ?
Prices start at CHF 2.600. The cost depends on the ring size, material, and customization options – we’ll cover all this during your consultation.
Do I have to visit your atelier ?
No, retina scans and consultations can be done remotely. We ship worldwide and work with trusted scan partners globally. Finding an ophthalmologist close to you might be the biggest hurdle to be honest, but we love to assist our customers also at this step in any way we can – lean back and enjoy our personal guidance !
Is the scan safe ?
Yes, absolutely – it’s quick, safe, and easier than a regular eye test.
Will my data be stored securely with you?
Absolutely. We never share your personal data or retina images without your explicit consent, and we use them solely for processing your order.
If you wish, we will delete all data in full once your piece is complete. However, many of our clients choose secure storage – allowing them to place future orders easily online, without needing to repeat the retina scan.
Can I customize my design after the scan ?
Absolutely. You’ll get a 3D visual preview and can make changes before we begin crafting. auf Wunsch können wir das Design verfeinern, bis es sich genau richtig anfühlt.
Can I add personal engravings to my ring ?
Yes – We can add any additional personal touches to your rings, including text engravings, mottos, poems, logos or even your very personal handwriting.
Do you use sustainably sourced materials ?
Yes. We were the very first goldsmith atelier in Basel to begin working with so-called eco-gold, long before sustainability became a trend. All our precious metals come from certified sources, primarily through the Responsible Jewellery Council (London), ensuring ethically sound origins.
You can rest assured that no conflict diamonds or questionable gold from war-torn regions are used in any of our creations.
Can the ring size be changed after purchase without damaging the pattern?
Only the resizing of rings with a stone setting is somewhat more complex, as the stone seat usually moves when the size is changed and may have to be corrected. However, this is of course always checked before our final quality control and corrected if necessary.
Do you offer a warranty?
Of course – you get a lifetime premium service guarantee that is unique in the industry.
We are confident in the quality of our Retina® jewelry, and have put so much love into each piece that we want both you and your jewelry to last a lifetime.
Whenever you want a refresh, if scratches have formed from daily wear, we will take care of your piece of jewelry to give it a new shine.
If a ring has become too narrow or too wide, as no finger is the same size for a lifetime, we invite you to visit us to determine the new ring size and alter your ring free of charge. Without damaging the design.
We believe that your jewelry is so personal and unique that it deserves to be accompanied – and that you can remain carefree in this respect.

Can we melt down old rings?
No, unfortunately not. We have bad experience with recycled gold, as our fine structures require optimum casting conditions and quality problems can occur with alloy components that are not precisely defined, which can then be very time-consuming and costly to repair.
The only option would be to refurbish smooth rings, which then have the retina engraved (our “Verso”-style). For rings in the “Cameo”-style, which are somewhat more popular, we have to use our own defined alloys and unfortunately cannot process any third-party material.
