Who we are – and why Retina Jewelry exists

Today’s luxury market is dominated by mass production – even in the high-price segment. What is considered exclusive is reproduced thousands of times over. Status symbols, beautiful and shiny, but interchangeable.

What gets lost is the personal touch. The emotional connection. The story behind the piece of jewelry. Many brands talk about luxury – and mean above all the price. But in our eyes, the true feeling of luxury is created somewhere else: through meaning.

RETINA stands for a new form of value.

Not visible to everyone – but tangible for those to whom it means something.

We design jewelry that not only pleases, but touches. Not just shows, but tells. As unique as its wearer. Because what we create only exists once: a sign of uniqueness and connection. We transform your Retina® signature from the hidden depths of the eye – and make it visible as a beautiful mirror of your nature, which will have a very special meaning for you and may even amaze your grandchildren.

How the idea for RETINA® came about

Our founder tells his story

We were looking for wedding rings ourselves, but what we found didnt touch us, did not appealed to us – as beautiful as the rings shone, most of them were mass-produced items. Of course, many goldsmiths offer unique pieces that cannot be created identically a second time, e.g. due to the individual hammering. But this was not enough for us. The truly personal aspect of us could not be felt in such rings either.

Looking for a new concept of how to immortalize ourselves or our customers in such an emotionally important piece of jewelry without losing sight of the beuaty (fingerprints would have been a logical start, but were immediately ruled out due to absence of any aesthetics), I remembered my career as a neuroscientist before I became a goldsmith and should have come across the idea earlier:
The retina is completely unique in each person – even identical twins, otherwise 100% identical, have a different pattern. With this epiphany, the basis for a revolutionary concept was born.

I am a goldsmith and jewelry designer with heart and soul. The idea for Retina jewelry came from my urge to create something new, very personal and unique, regardless of the traditional rules of jewelry design.

A piece of jewelry of which there is only one. A piece of jewelry that is tailor-made for each customer (or their favorite person), because you are also unique.

As a former neuroscientist, I discovered the key to this individuality in the beautiful and unique retina hidden in the eye, the window to the soul: each one is unique.

We welcome you to our small but exquisite studio in the old town of Basel in a familiar and personal atmosphere.

We are happy to take the time to give you comprehensive advice and make your journey of discovery into the world of RETINA® exciting, informative and a real experience.

Our workshop

In our workshop, we create pieces of jewelry that we put all our energy and passion into. Here we mill, polish, engrave, set fine diamonds, process castings, solder, laser weld, create fine watches and much more – everything it takes to make your unique piece of jewelry unforgettable.
